This has been our challenge for the New Year. To go further. To trust more. To follow more closely. To abandon more fully to Him.

It challenges us as it may cause us fear. But we must leap.

For faith is a leap. Out of the dark. Not into it. But whilst we remain here it will remain dark.

It seems wasteful to me to have been given this new life and then we squander it by living the way we have always lived and never embracing the fullness of what He has sacrificially given us.

I really liked Ed and wish that I could have known him better. He and Crista started coming to our homegroup only a few months ago. He didn't talk much about himself, so I didn't realize all of the things we had had in common until his memorial service. We shared the exact same taste in music (and distaste for country music---ha), and he and Jack had fishing and hunting in common, not to mention the love of practical jokes! He sure did love to laugh, and the time when we shared our most embarrassing moments at homegroup, he sure made us all laugh! Most importantly, as you said, his life was a great testimony to his faith. We prayed for his family every week, and his faith never wavered. He truly was a warrior!
I'm so sad that he is gone, and our whole homegroup will miss him, but we know that he is living with Jesus now. We will continue to pray for the family that he left behind.

Because we live in such a crazy and chaotic world we WILL have times of trouble. For me, the more faith I have that he is protecting me and has control, the better I can handle those times of trouble. It takes determination to keep my eyes on him. If the trial is long it can be difficult to remember he is with me. But surrounding myself with those who love HIM, keeps me grounded and builds my faith.

I think trials serve the purpose of bringing us closer to Him. When things are going great, it's easy to take things for granted, but when the going gets tough, we then turn to Him for help. It's wonderful that He is so merciful and is always there in our time of need. Like John 16:33 says, "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."
